Who goes to Cape Cod in January?

1/30/15  A Pappy and Gigi who miss their grandkids, that's who!  We found a good price for the flight, and were lucky to get in and out between snowstorms.  We were there for the Super Bowl, which the Patriots won, so it was a good time for all!
Obviously I'm very behind on posting, but I want to remember the trip, so bear with me
Steve finally got to see his newest grandaughter
Josiah is learning from the master!

These kids love each other so much!  It's wonderful to see how good Sarah and Josiah are with Lydia.

They had a lot of snow!  It was over 3 feet deep in their yard.  Fortunately the city keeps the streets plowed, so getting around wasn't a problem.  Both of these snow pictures were taken by David.

Falmouth

Our last night on the cape. Still no baby...Steve and I made the difficult decision to head back to Florida. Emily's parents are arriving tomorrow, and there is that work thing....

Dave and Emily treated us to dinner at the British Beer Company in Falmouth. Later we walked on the beach and took some pictures.

Canal visitor center

The Cape Cod Canal is an interesting place! Although built as a for profit venture in the early 1900's, it is now under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service. There is always something fun to see! Pleasure boats, fishing boats, yachts, barges and the occasional cruise ship make up most of the traffic.
Sarah and Josiah each spelled out their names with military flags.

Salt Pond Visitor center and Coast Guard Beach

This area is part of the Cape Cod National Seashore. We looked around the visitor center for a while, then walked the boardwalk to the beach . The trail goes over a saltwater marsh teeming with birds, and ends at the beach. Occasionally seals are spotted here but we didn't see any. The water was much colder than the bay beaches and the current was very strong. Thankfully Sarah and Josiah were content to play in the sand.

Breakwater beach

Today Emily and I took the kids to Brewster and Breakwater beach. First we walked to a general store that has been there since before the Civil war, then walked down to the beach.

Yesterday's beach had many small rocks and no shells. Today there were a few large rocks and still no shells. The Mayflower landed not too far from here and I can't help but wonder what the Pilgrims thought when seeing these shores.

Sandy Neck hike

No baby yet, but we are making the most of our time with Sarah and Josiah . Yesterday we went to Sandy Neck beach, near Sandwich . We did a short hike along the backside of the sand dunes , viewed the marsh, followed a trail over the dunes and ended up at the beach. The trail was very deep sand in spots and was difficult to walk through. Both kids were troopers and I am very proud of the way they persevered! The view of the beach from the top of the dune was worth it!
